Rules of Ludus duodecim scriptorum Trepidus

Objective: The primary aim is to capture the greatest number of your opponent’s pieces while skillfully avoiding premature movements that could cause your own pieces to be lost from the board.

Board: The board features 12 numbered spaces arranged in two parallel rows of six spaces each.

Pieces: Each player begins with 15 pieces, which are placed on the board at the start of the game.

Dice: The game utilizes three six-sided dice to determine the number of spaces to move. The results of the dice rolls dictate the distance to advance.

Movement of Pieces: Pieces advance solely forward and may not move backward. Careful movement is crucial to prevent pieces from being lost off the board.

Blocking Points: A space becomes blocked when it is occupied by two or more pieces of the same player. Opposing pieces are unable to occupy a blocked space.

Capture and Removal: When a piece lands on a space occupied by a single opponent’s piece, the player may capture and remove the opponent’s piece from the board. Captured pieces do not re-enter the game.

Victory: The winner is the player who captures the most opponent’s pieces while ensuring all of their own pieces remain on the board.
