Board

  • 8x8, similar to a chessboard, but without colored squares.

Pieces

  • Pawns: 8 per player.
  • Dux: 1 per player, special piece.

Objective

  • Capture all of the opponent's pieces or make the opponent's dux unable to move.

Initial Placement

  • Pieces are placed on the board in turn, starting with the regular pawns and finishing with the dux. Each piece must be placed on an empty square.

Movement

  • Pawns: Move in a straight line, vertically, any number of squares, as long as there are no obstacles.
  • Dux: Moves like the pawns, in a straight line, vertically.

Capture

  • A piece is captured if it is surrounded by two opponent's pieces in a straight line (vertically).
  • Capture must occur during the opponent's turn; self-capture is not allowed.
  • Diagonal captures are not possible.

Dux and Capture

  • The dux can be captured like any other piece, but it is strategically important.

Victory

  • The game ends when a player has no more possible moves, when the opponent's dux is captured, or when a player resigns.
